Parenting behavior is something that we can observe. But there is a lot going on in parents “under the skin” when they respond – or do not respond – to child signals. What are the neurobiological processes underlying parenting? Are these the same for fathers and mothers? An important question is also: are neurobiological factors influencing parenting behavior or could it also be the other way around, i.e., does parental behavior affect their neurobiology? These are questions that will be addressed, based on state-of-the-art empirical studies and meta-analyses.
